Terms and Conditions

Please note Safari 4WD Hire reserves their right to alter/update these terms and conditions as they see fit without prior notice. Safari 4WD Hire is a self-guided tour. You are your own guide, we can only provide advice to maximise your trip.

General

  • All vehicle rentals are per calendar day (not 24hr blocks).
  • All drivers of the vehicle must be over 21 years of age, hold a current open drivers license and have held that license for a minimum of 2 years.
  • All vehicle rentals require a physical credit card imprint on the rental agreement (debit cards are not suitable).
  • A $300 deposit is required at time of booking to secure your hire.
  • A pre-authorisation of a $2000 bond is required for all hires, unless vehicle damage access is reduced.
  • K'gari (Fraser Island) is only accessible by 4WD and is an off-road environment. The track conditions may be extremely rough at various times of the year.
  • K'gari (Fraser Island) is a Queensland National Park, therefore you will need to purchase a Vehicle Access Permit and if camping you will need to purchase camping permits (camping permits require 1 permit per person, per night).
  • Vehicles are full of fuel and are clean at the beginning of each hire. We require the cars to come back full of fuel and clean. Failing to do so will incur a cleaning and service fee ($100) plus fuelling costs.
  • Minumum hire periods apply during peak season.
  • Single day hires are available outside of peak season are subject to tide times.
  • Vehicles are only availble for hire to use on K'gari (Fraser Island) - please note this does not include Noosa North Shore and Great Sandy National Park (Cooloola National Park).

Damage Loss Liability

All hire vehicles have a standard loss liability for off road use on K'gari (Fraser Island). The damage loss liability is $5000 and can be reduced to $500 by paying $35 per day.

The following is at all times the responsibility of the hirer:

  • Damage caused where the terms of the Rental Contract have been breached (ie - driving outside of the contracted area).
  • Damage caused to the vehicle in any way by partial or total submersion in fresh or salt water.
  • Damage caused by negligence (ie - failure to check and maintain fluids for the engine).
  • Damage caused as a result of a Single Car Accident (an accident not involving another vehicle).
  • Damage caused to the vehicle by the renters' wilful conduct (ie - speeding and/or driving dangerously).
  • Damage to the bonnet or the roof of the vehicle caused by standing on, sitting on or placing object on the bonnet or roof.
  • Damage to the underbody of the vehicle (ie - springs, axels, exhaust).
  • Damage to transmission (not due to fair wear and tear).
  • Damage or loss to a vehicle while trying to avoid contact with an animal.
  • Damage or loss of vehicle where the keys have been left in vehicle.
  • Re-fuelling the vehicle with the incorrect fuel. 

Cancellation Policy

  • Bookings canceled more than 3 days prior to vehicle pick up will not incur a cancellation fee, a full deposit refund will be provided. 
  • Bookings canceled within 2 days prior to pick up will result in loss of deposit alongside an additional cancellation fee of $265.00 for barge transfers per vehicle. This also includes the cancellation of transfers double booked (We booked transfers and were not advised by the customer they had already booked their own transfer).

Refund Policy

K'gari (Fraser Island) is an extremely harsh off-road environment and mechanical failures can happen, to even the newest of cars, despite the best maintenance practices. Any loss of time due to mechanical failure not caused by your own actions is disappointing and we will wherever possible replace your hire vehicle as soon as we can and extend your hire for the equivalent time lost. Please note we are restricted by barge crossing and tide times when replacing vehicles.

If an extension of your hire is not possible, we calculate compensation using the following methodology:

  • We allow 10 usable hours per day for the vehicle
  • We divide the cost you have paid per day by 10 (usable hours/day) leaving us with a dollar per hour figure
  • We multiply the number of hours lost by the dollar per hour and refund this amount

Please note we do not issue refunds for:

  • Personal stress due to a mechanical breakdown
  • Missing connecting travel arrangements (ie - trains, busses, flights etc).
  • Use of any other unapproved travel means, or accommodation.
  • Time lost due to mechanical failure through no fault of the company

We do not refund money for hires cut short due to:

  • Bad weather (unless directed by Queensland parks or Queensland Police personnel to leave the Island).
  • Tidal conditions which result in the hirer missing out on places they wished to travel to.
  • Shortening of the rental period by the hirer.
  • Rental vehicle taken from the hirer due to abuse, misuse or breach of hire contract.

We do charge customers for:

  • Vehicles not re-fuelled
  • Vehicles that have not been washed and cleaned prior to return.
  • Breaches of the hire agreement resulting in damage
  • Associated costs to return the hire vehicle to our workshop due to hirers fault.
